Nine starters return from last year's Sectional Champion team as the Mustangs are poised for another big year.

The 190-Hwt run for the Stangs should be as good as any team in the state. Senior Harvey Ludington takes a final lap as one of the Shore's all-time great upperweights. Ludington enters the season with a career record of 113-3, 2 State Titles, a 2nd-place State Medal, 3 Region Titles, and 3 District Titles. He's basically walking bonus points at this point for the Stangs at the top of the lineup. Continuing the run up top are junior Trey Tallmadge and senior Ben Szuba. Tallmadge is a 2-time District Champion, and 2-time State Qualifier, finishing 3rd at Regions last season, and 4th as a freshman. Szuba was one win away from a State medal last year, and placed 2nd at the Shore Conference Tournament. He won a Region title last season, and finished 3rd at the Regions as a sophomore, and is a 2-time District Champ.

The Stangs are loaded down low as well. Sophomore Sonny DiMatteo was one of the top 106-pounders in the Shore Conference last season, racking up 30 wins and finishing just one win short of a spot on the podium at Boardwalk Hall after placing 3rd at the Regions and winning the District 22 Championship. Senior Gavin Martin won his 3rd District Championship last season and advanced to States after finishing 4th at Regions. The Bloomsburg-commit enters the year with 69 career wins. Juniors Michael Napolitano and Kson Young also return for the Stangs. Napolitano won his 2nd District title last year, but missed a return trip to AC after advancing there as a freshman. Young shined in his first season as a starter last year, winning 15 bouts and placing 3rd at Districts. Freshman Paul DiMatteo, an Intermediate States qualifier last year, looks to make an impact at 106.

The bulk of the new starters in the lineup will come in the range from 138-175, but it's not a group lacking experience. Senior Malachi Saint-Vil is a battle-tested returning starter for Memorial, and sophomore Jack Marotta and senior Frank Bongiovanni split time at 150 last season. Junior Hank Mulligan transferred in from Donovan Catholic, where was a 3rd-place finisher at Districts last season.

With the hammers they have, especially up top, the Stangs have the ability to rack up points in a hurry. They won't get a chance to defend their CJG4 Title as they have been moved down to CJG3, where they will likely be the favorites for a return trip to Rutgers for the Group Championships. As for the division, the Stangs are in the A-Division with CBA, St John Vianney, Rumson, and old A-South friend Southern, who they will meet in a huge early season dual on December 19th at home.
