The Warriors have been one of the rising programs in the Shore over the last few years, and the rise almost culminated last season in the program's first divisional title since 1980, dropping a dual to Top 11 ranked Middletown South in the final bout for the E-Division championship.
There were a few key losses to graduation from last year's squad, notably Michael O'Connor, who left 'Squan as their all-time wins leader, and their first wrestler to reach 100 career wins, as well as a trio of 20+ match winners, including D-23 runner-up at 215 Kai Donahue. As a result, this is going to be a bit of a young team, but there's still a good core coming back from last year's 17-win team.
The lower half of the lineup is where the bulk of the experience returns, and has the potential to be a very strong group. Sophomore JP Sanders is coming off a 25-win rookie campaign that saw him place 2nd at Districts. He recorded some impressive individual wins last season, and is a candidate to have a huge year with the full year of experience.
Sanders is joined in the lower half by juniors Shea Tracey and Shane Kerstetter, who combined for 53 wins at 106 and 113 last season. Senior Donovan Havard and sophomore Shane DePinto each won 19 matches last season, giving the Warriors five solid starters from last year's team down low. Also back down low is Nico Princiotta. The senior, who did not wrestle last season, won 19 matches as a sophomore, and 15 as a freshman.
There is some depth to that lowerweight group as well, with seniors Jose Ortiz and Logan Milancewich, who each saw action last year, sophomore Jack Thomas, and freshmen Miles Byrne and Padraig Tracey giving head coach Justin Barowski the ability to move the lineup around.
The Warriors have come a long way since Barowski has taken over. No longer a bottom rung team, they came close to knocking off a couple of ranked teams last year. If those lowerweights wrestle to their ability, and the seniors up top, like Charlie Kauffman, Ambrose Masonius, and David Dawson, who won 14 matches last season, and junior Torrin Tracey, a 25-match winner in 2025 can all step up, the Warriors should continue to keep impressing.
