Marlboro has been scratching and clawing to work itself back up over the last few years. They went from 6 wins in 2023, to 11 in 2024, to 17 in 2025, which is their most since they won 19 back in 2020. There's a good balance to the room, a great work ethic, and strong leadership, as the Mustangs look to continue their climb and challenge in the F-Division.
The Mustangs have an experienced group returning in the stretch from around 132-165. Sophomore Christian Onushkanich, a District runner-up, led the team in wins last season, with 30. He's Marlboro's first freshman to win 30 matches Danny Saraiva won 31 in 2012. Senior Artur Avanesyan was 18-8 last season, but missed the Districts due to injury. Along with Ian Knarr, Zahyr Evans, Dimitri Kiknavelidze, Michael Ricatti, and Adam Lirov, who placed 4th at Districts, it gives Marlboro a strong veteran core in the middle of the lineup.
Down low, 3rd-year starter Eddie Hall, who won 22 bouts and took 4th at Districts, leads the charge as several underclassmen battle it out in the room for the chance to step into the lineup. Up top, several of the potential starters will look to build off the experience they gained last season as they look to take over full time roles in the lineup.
The Mustangs have really been putting the work in to ascend up the ranks in the Shore. As a result, their expectations for this season high as they look to top last year's win total and more. They'll have a full month to prepare for their run at a possible divisional title, as they do not start their F-Division slate until January 14th, when they travel to Freehold Boro.
