2024 Record: 4-19
Pinelands entered the 2024 season with high hopes of ending a string of losing seasons, but were unfortunately hit with the injury bug all season long. As a result, a lot of young wrestlers were thrust into the lineup and assumed larger roles than anticipated. While it did not bring an end to the streak of losing seasons, it got the young wrestlers a lot of experience and has the 2025 lineup filled with as much returning experience and depth as they've had in some time.
Down low, the Cats will get back junior Wyatt Pharo, who missed the entirety of the 2024 season. Pharo was a District Champ in 2023, becoming the first wrestler in Pinelands' history to win a District title as a freshman. Senior Joe Wainen is a 4-year starter, and along with Pharo, will provide veteran leadership to what should be an otherwise very young group. Among that young group is sophomore Daniel Platti, who registered 23 victories in his debut season, and finished 4th in what was a very tough 106-pound District 25 bracket. Fellow sophomores Dom Colosi and Adam Ahmed are looking to step up after getting a few matches in last season, while a healthy number of freshmen will be looking to crack the lineup, including Michael Kirk.
The middle of the lineup also gets a boost with the return of Antonio Esposito, who also missed last season because of injury. Along with Mason Griffiths, the pair can provide some senior leadership in the middleweights for Pinelands. Sophomores Owen Taylor and Brody Rawa will be looking to take the next step after spending their freshmen seasons in the starting lineup, and round out an experienced foursome to break some newcomers into the lineup around.
Up top, 4-year starter Jacob Greenberg, a District runner-up last year, anchors the upperweights. Seniors Shane Gordon and Jason Allen return from injury, with Gordon missing all of last season, while Allen was limited to just four matches. Sophomore Layton Goggins is looking to build off last year's experience as he assumed a full time role in the lineup as a freshman upperweight in 2024 with all of the injuries the Wildcats had.
With the young starters back from last year's team, the returners from injury, and the freshmen coming in from an improving feeder program, the Wildcats are excited about their numbers and potential, and will resume their goal of getting the program back on the winning track. Pinelands has not won a division title since 2003, but will be working to do so as part of the H-Division with Asbury Park, Keyport, Lakewood, Monmouth, Neptune, and Shore Conference newcomers New Egypt.
