2025 St John Vianney Lancers

Head Coach: Chris Notte (6th Season / Career: 53-20)
2024 Record: 14-1 (Non-Public B, District 26, Shore Conference Tournament, & A-Central Champions)

Just about everyone from last year's Non-Public B, Shore Conference Tournament & A-Central Championship team is back, but while the Lancers are scheduled to be in this year's SCT, to repeat as Group Champs & Division Champs, they will have to do so up a level as the Lancers move up to Non-Public A, and into the new A-Division with Southern, Rumson, Brick Memorial, and CBA.

Senior Anthony Knox is back for one final run, as he begins his quest to become the Shore Conference's first ever 4-time State Champion, and just the 5th wrestler in NJ history to accomplish that feat, joining Nick Suriano, Anthony Ashnault, Andrew Campolattano, and Mike Grey. Knox enters the season with a career record of 107-1, with his only loss coming as a freshman at the Escape The Rock Tournament, and is 17 wins away from breaking the program record for career wins.

Among those joining Knox down low are fellow senior Patrick O'Keefe, junior Matt Gould, and sophomores Julian Zargo and Riley Correal. O'Keefe, who enters the season needing 9 victories to reach 100 for his career, is a 3-time State Medalist, a 2-time Region Champ, and 3-time District Champ. Gould has recorded 57 wins in his first two seasons and has placed 8th at States, finished 2nd at Regions, and 1st at Districts in each of his first two years. Zargo, who was 3rd at Districts, and Correal are both coming off strong freshmen campaigns. Juniors Ryan Kearney and Michael Lupo, and freshman John Markowski, are among those that provide solid depth for SJV down low.

The middle of the lineup will be led by seniors Jake Zaltsman and Dezmond Lenaghan. Zaltsman is 18 wins away from 100 for his career. He placed 7th in Atlantic City last season, and is a 3-time Region medal winner, and 3-time District Champion. Lenaghan has 75 career victories, and has made the trip to States in each of his first three seasons. Sophomore Bubba Gavrish comes off a strong rookie year that saw him win 18 matches, and take 2nd at Districts.

The upper portion of the lineup gets a HUGE boost with the arrival of senior Rocco Dellagatta. Dellagatta, who transferred in from St Joe's of Montvale, is the defending State Champion at heavyweight, buzz-sawing his way to the title with four pins and a major. He is a 3-time District and Region Champion, and also finished 4th at States in 2023. He's joined by returning starters senior Cole Stangle and juniors John Saraiva, Thomas Foley, and Daniel Breen. Stangle enters the year needing 15 victories to reach the century mark for his career. A 3-time State-qualifier, Stangle has finished one win shy of reaching the podium in each of the last two seasons. Saraiva is a 2-time District medalist, and finished in the Top 6 at Regions last year, while Foley earned his first post season medal with a 2nd-place finish at Districts.

The addition of Dellagatta at heavyweight boosts what was already a loaded lineup. As long as they're healthy this is easily a Top 10 team in the State, that will be in contention for titles in anything they're competing in.
