2024 Record: 6-18
Former Mariner Angel Orellana takes over for Billy Wilbert, who stepped down after a 14-year run leading North. Orellana comes back to his alma mater after spending a year as head coach at Lakewood. He inherits a Mariner squad going through a few down years since winning the A-South Title in 2020.
North has an experienced group in the upperweights, led by senior captain Cole Ganska. The 4-year starter won 19 matches in 2024, and advanced to the Regions following a 3rd-place finish at the Districts. He's capable of having a big year up top for the Mariners. Junior James Mauti finished in 4th-place at the Districts last year, and will be looking to take the next step this season, while William Lembo and Ben Cloos aim to build off the experience they gained as freshmen wrestling in the uppwerweights last season. Joining this group is senior Daniel Jimenez, who won 12 bouts at Lakewood last season, adding more experience to this group that could be a good strength for North.
Another captain, sophomore Justin Cauldwell, anchors the middleweights. Cauldwell had a great freshman season for the Mariners, finishing 2nd on the team in wins with 22, and capping the year with a 3rd-place finish at the Districts. Along with Dominic Capra, the duo will lead a group in the middle that will feature several new faces looking to make an impact in the lineup.
Down low, it will be a very young group. Sophomore Jacob Nash, who won 10 bouts as a frosh, is the lone returning starter. Junior Colton Olivier rejoins the lineup after missing last season. He had 12 varsity matches as a freshman, giving the bottom of the lineup a little more experience in what will be a group that will include several freshmen expected to crack the lineup.
