2022 Green Wave Wrestling

Head Coach
Billy George - 1st Season

Where They Open
12/17: Home Dual vs. Shore Regional

After a 31-year run as a head coach, the last 22 at his alma mater, Danny George stepped down as Long Branch's head coach. Replacing him, will be his nephew Billy George, a standout member of  Long Branch's Group Championship teams from 2008-2010. George, whose father was also a head coach for the Green Wave prior to his uncle taking over, inherits a young, promising group.

Three starters return down low for LB, with juniors Dom DeMarzo and Tyler Munson, and senior Ignacio Guzman all back down low. The trio will provide some lineup stability down low, as the Green Wave look to break in several promising newcomers down low, including a pair of freshmen to watch in Aiden McVey and Matt Munson.

In the middle, senior Angel Bonano is one of two wrestlers in the room that has been a lineup regular since the 2019 season. A 2-time Region Qualifier, he'll give LB a solid veteran presence in the middle of the lineup. The Wave have another returning starter here in junior Logan Smith, who is capable of a breakout year. Sophomores, Nick Miller and Kanyah Williams got a couple matches in last season. They were a part of the promising young freshmen class that came into the program last year, that is looking to prove itself after the shortened season cost many of them varsity mat time.

Deiondre McCullers is the other senior wrestler in the room that has been in the lineup since his freshman season. He'll be looking to have a big season in his final run, while also providing some veteran leadership to the many new faces looking to crack the lineup here.

The numbers in the room are very strong at 50+ wrestlers, with double digits in each grade. There's a lot of enthusiasm in the room, as there is great competition in the room as people battle for spots in the lineup. While this will be a bit of a rebuild this season with a new coach in place, the Wave are looking to bounce back from a rare losing season in 2021. There's a lot of potential with this group, and is likely to look like a much tougher team later in the season, as they build more confidence through big match experience.
