Most Wins for a Pinelands Freshman Since 2020

2024 Season

A fairly young team heading into the season, the Wildcats also had to deal with injuries throughout the year, and in some instances were forced to forfeit as many as five bouts.

Several freshmen were in the lineup for Pinelands this season, including 106-pounder Daniel Platti, who led the Wildcats with 23 wins, the most by a Pinelands freshman since Mason Livio's 27 wins in 2020.

With just a few seniors in the lineup this year, including 4-year starter Josiah Hart, who ends his run with the Wildcats with 71 career wins and a District medal, Pinelands' young core will look to build off the experience from this season and focus towards bigger things to come.

Good numbers, and a very promising incoming crop of freshmen, point to things trending upward in Tuckerton.

The lower half of the lineup has the potential to be pretty solid for the Wildcats, with sophomore Wyatt Pharo and senior Josiah Hart leading the charge. Pharo is coming off a debut season that saw him become the first ever freshman from Pinelands to win a District title. Hart, who has 52 career wins and is a 4-year starter, was District medalist in 2022. Also back is junior Joe Wainen, who has started in each of his first two seasons, and was a double digit winner last season. That trio gives the Wildcats a strong core down low as several of the promising freshmen, including Intermediate State placers Dan Platti and Brody Rawa, work their way into the lineup.

There is a little less experience up top, but Pinelands does have starters Leo Mendoza, a senior, and Jacob Greenberg returning. Greenberg won 16 matches wrestling down at 138 last season. Peyton Simonchi will be looking to build off the experience he gained in 2023, as he got nine matches in as a freshman. Also back is senior heavyweight Tyler Glass, who had his junior campaign ended in December due to injury. He has the potential to have a breakout season in his final year. There will be a lot of young faces looking to crack the lineup here, too. Keep an eye on freshman Layton Goggins, another Intermediate State placer.

The Wildcats have slowly been creeping up their win total over the last three years. While this is a very young team, there is a lot of potential with such a large, hard working group of newcomers in the room. The enthusiasm level is high, and the team will not only look to increase their dual wins total again this year, but also aim for the program's first winning season since 2010.
