2022 Wildcats Wrestling

Head Coach
Joe Adelizzi - 5th Season (Career Record: 22-55)

Where They Open
12/18: at Gateway Tournament

With a 5-1 start to the shortened season last year, Pinelands was on pace for their first winning season since 2010, before contact tracing wreaked havoc on the lineup, resulting in a 5-6 finish. The team is hungry, and they're anxious to get back on the mats, as they look to end up on the winning side of things in 2022.

There is a pretty good group returning down low for the Cats, led by junior Mason Livio. Livio qualified for the Regions for the 2nd straight year last season, and finished in 6th-place at 120. He will have his sight sets on a Top 4 finish and a trip to Atlantic City. Sophomore Josiah Hart came into his rookie campaign with a lot of potential, and he certainly impressed, putting together a 9-2 debut season. He will also be aiming for big things this year, and gives the lineup a nice 1-2 punch down low with Livio. The lowerweights are further boosted with the veteran presence of seniors Nick Muso and Eric Helfrich, and junior Mark Siino.

In the middle, junior Gio Rosetti had put in the work necessary to have a big season in 2021, only to have it cut short after just three bouts. He has continued to work during the offseason, and is looking to have a big year for the Wildcats. Sophomore Nick Sheridan got 11 valuable matches last year as a freshman, and will be looking to build off of that.

Gavin Wagner and heavyweight Mateo Mena bookend the upperweights for Pinelands. Wagner, a junior, is another who was looking to have a breakout season in 2021, only to have it cut short. Down to 165 after wrestling up last season, he is looking to make up for lost time and put together a strong 2022 campaign. Mena, a senior, was a Region Qualifier for the Wildcats in 2021. 7 of his wins last season came via pin, with the other 2 coming by forfeit. He should be among the top heavies in the Shore Conference this season, and is another solid candidate for a potential trip to Atlantic City.

Pinelands has some nice veteran pieces in place in the lineup that should have big seasons., and should rack up the wins. The team is focused on finishing with a winning record in the duals. If the youngsters in the lineup can develop quickly, the Wildcats have a very good shot at ending at the 11-year drought, as well as potentially qualifying for Sectionals for the first time since 2010.
