Where They Open
12/18: at Manalapan Tournament

Point Boro took a ding to graduation, with eight seniors, including a trio of Region Qualifiers, departing. The team is excited about what they have in the room though, with some promising newcomers, and several wrestlers that were behind that talented senior class on the depth chart, that are looking to step in and make an impact in the lineup.

The Panthers will be young down low. Jared Drewes, a sophomore, started at 106 during last year's shortened season, and projects as the only starter down low with varsity experience. The Panthers are looking forward to see the newcomers crack the lineup, including freshmen Joey DeAngelo and Frankie Burgio, who come into the lineup after successful careers at the youth level.

The middle of the lineup looks like it could be the strength this season. Junior Jack Thompson followed up a strong rookie campaign with an undefeated 2021, and sophomore Ryan Acquisto picked up some nice wins in his debut year. Both wrestlers finished 6-0, yet did not receive invites to the Regions last year, and will hit this year with a bit of a chip on their shoulders on the mat. Senior Charlie Latendorf has been a big piece in the lineup since his freshman season. He provides valuable veteran leadership, and should be in line for a very big year for Boro. Another starter returning from last season is junior Nate Fletcher, who is looking to show what he's capable of with a full season. That foursome, along with some nice pieces that include juniors John Tornquist and Jacob Messano, look to give the Panthers a solid middle stretch, with some good lineup flexibility as well.

Six of the seniors lost to graduation competed in the stretch from 152-220 last season, so the upperweights are going to have a bit of a facelift this season. The team is very excited about the potential of the junior class that has been working hard for their chance after they spent the last two seasons behind that talented veteran lineup Boro had. The Panthers will also look to senior Luke Wilson, a standout on the football field, for a big year manning the heavyweight slot, while providing leadership to all the new starters.

There are a lot of new faces in the lineup, but the Panthers are looking to simply reload in 2022. They've got some good young talent down low, they're solid in the middle, and have a hungry group coming in up top. They'll be aiming to, once again, do battle in a much-improved overall B-South field, as they try to reclaim the division title after having their 4-year title run snapped last season, and will be bidding to make noise in both the team, and individual postseason.
