Rob Nucci - 21st Season (Raritan Record: 395-115 / Career Record: 413-144)
Where They Open
12/17: TCNJ Pride Tournament at Middletown South
The Rockets have been injecting some very good young talent into the lineup the last couple of seasons, and are adding some more this year, and it looks like it's about to pay dividends. The Green Machine is loaded. This is as balanced a lineup as Coach Nucci has had in several years, and from the looks of things, it could be a big year in Hazlet.
Down low, three starters return, led by 2-time Region Qualifier, junior Ryan Mansueto, a 20-bout winner as a frosh in 2020, and the team leader in wins last season. He's joined by fellow juniors Braden Kmak and Matt Erven, who give the Rockets a trio of talented upperclassmen in which they can break in some new faces to the starting lineup around in the lower portion of the lineup. Among those new faces is freshman Alex DeLaurier, a multi-time State Medalist at the Intermediate level.
Sophomore Zach Reilley kicks off the middle run from 138-157. Reilley was one of the top frosh in the Shore last season, and has AC podium-level talent. There will be a strong senior presence in the other three weights with Alex Auletta, a Region Qualifier in 2020, Connor Newell, Quinn Peters, and Nick Cadoo. Sophomores Logan Acevedo and Anthony Ennis should also see some time here, and provide Raritan some good depth and flexibility in the middle.
The Rockets have a lot of experience and talent returning up top, as well. Senior, Cole Bailey is a 2-time Region Qualifier. Fellow senior Sean Lane, and junior Kieran Falzon both made it to the Regions last season, while another senior, Nick Burns was a Region Qualifier as a sophomore in 2020. Adding to the strength up top are returning starters Bobby Mulligan and Jack Devaney, both juniors. Expect to see contributions from some promising new faces in the uppers, as well, in junior Anthony Vinciguerra, sophomores Anthony Ennis, Stephen Moser, and Nick O'Beirne, and freshman heavy, Juan Santos. This should be a DEEP, talented group of uppers.
The Rockets are back. The lineup this year has the potential to be one of the toughest from top to bottom, and as deep, as they've had. There are lot of intriguing dates on the schedule, but perhaps the most will be on January 24th, when they visit a loaded St John Vianney in a dual that could be for all the marbles in A-Central. The Rockets will also likely be the favorites in the CJ2 Section, especially with traditional State power, South Plainfield, having moved to CJ3, and will very much be in the hunt for the G2 Title.
