Where They Open
12/18: Beast of the East Tournament

With a mix of solid returners, some impact transfers, and a highly regarded freshmen class, the Lancers are loaded.

We start down low, where the Lancers are flat out stacked. We'll start with the upperclassmen, led by senior Nico Diaz, a 3-time State Qualifier, who enters the season with 63 career wins, and one of a handful of wrestlers in the Shore with a shot at hitting 100 career wins this year. He's joined by fellow senior Blake Geibel, a State Qualifier at Northern Burlington in 2020, and juniors Joe Giordano, also a State Qualifier in 2020, and Dan Herndon.

As for the freshmen lowerweights, it's about as promising a group as you could ask for. The big name here is Anthony Knox. He won championships at both Fargo and the Super 32 this offseason, and will enter the season as the #1 ranked 113-pounder in the nation. He has set his goals as high as you can get, as he aims to join Nick Suriano and Anthony Ashnault as the only undefeated 4-time State Champions in New Jersey history. Needless to say, Knox is one to keep an eye on. Patrick O'Keefe is another highly touted frosh for the Lancers. O'Keefe earned six State Medals at the various levels prior to high school, and will enter the season ranked 2nd in NJ at 106 by Full Circle. Also expect to see another promising freshman, Anthony Giordano, to get time down at 106/113. Rounding out the freshmen down low is Jake Zaltsman, who also won several State Medals at the youth level, including a Junior State Title in 2018.

A couple transfers bolster the middle of the lineup. Junior Jasiah Queen is a 2-time State Qualifier, who comes in from Elizabeth. Also joining the Lancers is Kevin McBride, a junior, who was a Region Qualifier last season at Marlboro. McBride has really put in the work this offseason, and could be primed for a breakout season. Also in the middle is yet another freshman coming in with impressive credentials in Cole Stangle, who was a Novice State Champ in 2018.

The Lancers have been a little light in numbers in the upperweights the last few seasons, but it looks like they are up this season. It's not a very experienced group, but they do have juniors Michael Foley, a 2-time Region Qualifier, and Thomas Cleary, a transfer from Holmdel, who is a also a 2-time qualifier. If this group comes along quickly, this lineup is going to be awfully tough to beat.

No doubt about it, there is some serious firepower in this lineup, and it is firepower that will be tested early and often. The Lancers open at the Beast of the East, and will participate in the Sam Cali Invitational. The dual schedule has the A-Central foes, highlighted by a showdown with Raritan on 1/24, and a quad on 1/21 with CBA and the powerful Crusaders of Bergen Catholic, who will likely open the season ranked #2 in NJ. The stretch of the lineup from 106-157 is flat out brutal and is going to rack up a lot of points. The key is to see how much they can get from their upperweights. They'll have about a month before the dual schedule really heats up, so we'll keep an eye on them.
