Where They Open
12/18: Robin Leff Tournament at Southern Regional

Just a hand full of seniors return, sprinkled throughout the lineup, but there is still a lot of proven talent returning, and a very solid group of newcomers arriving on the scene, as the Rams hit 2022 with a young, talented lineup.

Down low, the Rams have a great group of freshmen talent expected to crack the lineup and provide an immediate impact. Seniors Chris Lubeski and Kellen Bischoff, have the big match experience, and can be looked upon to provide veteran leadership for this young group. The big name returning down here is junior Conor Collins. Collins has a 55-6 record through his first two seasons, was the State Runner-up at 113 last year, is a 2-time Region Champion, and was a District Champ in 2020.

The middle of the lineup for the Rams appears like it is going to be a huge strength. Sophomore Matt Henrich shined in his rookie season, advancing to States after placing 4th at Regions. Junior Nick Bennet, who went 5-0 in the short season last year, was a 16-match winner as a freshman in the starting lineup in 2020. Junior Cole Velardi, who took 5th at Regions last year, won 33 matches and qualified for States in 2020. Senior Nate Bischoff is another solid veteran presence in the lineup, and was a Region Qualifier last season. Keep an eye on Hayden Hochstrasser, here. The freshman joins the Rams after a tremendous career at the youth level that saw him win multiple State Medals.

Up top, Riley O'Boyle, a junior, had a solid debut season in the varsity lineup last year for Southern, qualifying for the Regions after an 8-1 regular season. Sophomore Tyler Chase showed a ton of potential, picking up some impressive wins in his rookie season. Fellow sophomore Collin French will be looking to build off the experience gained from getting into the lineup last season. The upperweights also get a boost with the returns of seniors Nolan Anderson and Brock Lefkus, who both have previous varsity experience, but missed last season. At heavyweight, the Rams will have senior David Casas, who was a starter for TR East back in 2020.

Same old, same old, down in Manahawkin. The Rams have a wealth of talent all throughout the lineup, and figure to be among the top teams in the Shore, and one of the top public schools in the State. Their ability to get better and better as the season moves on is well-documented, and with some much young talent cracking the lineup, that will likely be the case this year. The schedule is brutal again, with non-conference dual meets against Phillipsburg, Kingsway, South Plainfield, High Point, and Mt Olive. Obviously, we highlight their early A-South clash at home against Brick Memorial on January 5th as a key date, as that dual will go a long way in determining the A-South Champions. The faces change, but the goals remain the same. The Rams are gunning for the A-South title, and using their tough schedule to prepare them for when the stakes are raised with the postseason team and individual tournaments.
