SHORE CONFERENCE TEAMS
Keansburg: 8 Champions - Last (2024) / 0 Team Titles
2-time District runner-up, Shawn Retta, the program leader in career wins with 116, earned a #1 seed at 215, and will be aiming for the Titans' first District title since 2024, and third since 2017. He's also aiming to become Keansburg's first 3-time medalist since Liam Riecks in 2019. Retta will be tested right out of the gate, as although he has a bye into the semis, he will likely meet #4 seed Thomas Foley of SJV, a State qualifier last season, in that round.

Bryar Gilliland (120) and Michael Clayton (150) each were seeded #2, and Michael Burke (157) was seeded #3. If the Titans' four top 3 seeds can hold their seeds, it would be their most medalists since they had five in 2007.

Keyport: 12 Champions - Last (2011) / 0 Team Titles
The Red Raiders had their first medal winner since 2020 last season, when the since-graduated Derek Ferm placed 3rd. They will now look to make it two years in a row with at least one medalist, which would be the first time they've been able to accomplish that since getting medal winners in three consecutive seasons in 2018 thru 2020. Senior Peter Marroquin is seeded #2 at 126, and junior Max Szczepaniak is the 4-seed at heavyweight and look to be the Red Raiders' best shots at pushing into the Regions.

Marlboro: 34 Champions - Last (2022) / 1 Team Title (1970)
Marlboro has had multiple medal winners in five of the last six Districts. With eight wrestlers seeded in the top 3, the Mustangs are armed with plenty of candidates to keep that streak rolling. The most medal winners they've had in the last twenty seasons would be six, back in 2020. They have a pretty good shot at topping that number this year.

Last season, Christian Onushkanich became the first freshman from Marlboro to win a District medal since 2012. They have a pair of freshmen seeded at #3 down low in Mark Libes (106) and Dylan Herbert (113) looking to make it two seasons in a row.

Middletown South: 110 Champions - Last (2023) / 8 Team Titles (2022)
The Eagles are trying to end a 2-year title drought. A great way to get off the snide is to start with five #1 seeds, and 11 wrestlers in total seeded in the top 3, which is it what South will have.

Peter Trezza, who advanced to Atlantic City last year as a freshman, is down to 113 for the postseason after having wrestled at 120 all throughout the regular season, with some occasional bump-ups to 126. He's one of the Eagles' five #1 seeds and will be a sizable favorite.

Ryan Willi, who also advanced to AC last season, enters the tournament with 113 career wins, tied for 3rd all-time at South with the great Glenn Pritzlaff.

Midd South's three other tops seeds are Tyler Alweiss (144) and Max Alweiss (175), and Ryan Romano (138), who placed 3rd last season. Romano, who defeated the #2 in his weight, Adam Lirov of Marlboro, at the Shore Conference Tournament, could have an interesting potential semifinal bout with #4 Anthony Scagnelli of SJV who has had some solid wins for the Lancers this season.

The Eagles are searching for their first team title at Districts since 2022. We'll put them as a co-favorite alongside St John Vianney. This one could play out with the Eagles potentially pushing more wrestlers onto the podium, but the fire power and championship total from Vianney being enough to have them neck and neck with the Eagles. Should be one of the more interesting team battles to watch.

Raritan: 132 Champions - Streak (23 Seasons) / 12 Team Titles (2024)
Raritan's 132 champions is 9th most in the Shore Conference and 5th most in Monmouth County.

The Rockets have had at least 1 champ in 23 consecutive seasons. It's the 4th longest streak in the Shore and longest in Monmouth County. There have been plenty of seasons where it seemed pretty much automatic that the Rockets would keep that streak rolling, but with just one top seed, Owen Brackett at 132, it's no given this year.

Brackett, a runner-up in 2025, is one of four Rockets who medaled at last year's Districts. Gregory Aronne (seeded 2nd at 175), Parker Needham (2nd at 190), and Charles Geoghan (4th at 144), all placed 3rd in last year's Districts, while Ryan Settle (seeded 3rd at 215), was a District runner-up in 2024.

Red Bank Regional: 31 Champions - Streak (2 Seasons) / 0 Team Titles
The Bucs had back-to-back champs last season for the first time since 2002 & 2023. The last time RBR has 3 seasons in a row with a champ was during their run of 9 straight from 1990-1998. Top-seeded Jason Huss, who is #2 all-time on the Bucs' career wins list, appears to represent Red Bank's best shot at keeping the streak going, although don't count out fellow senior John Galligan who is seeded 3rd at 144.

St John Vianney: 75 Champions - Streak (11 Seasons) / 5 Team Titles (2025)
After being hammered by injuries all season long, the Lancers look to have their full lineup for the individual postseason run, including 3-time medalist, and returning champ, John Saraiva, who has been out since mid-December.

SJV's streak of 11 seasons with a champ is the longest in the program's history, and 49 of their 75 championships have come during this streak. One would feel that with five top-seeds, and a couple of what I like to call "landmine seeds," the streak is likely safe this season.

Lowerweights Riley Correal (106), Julian Zargo (120), and Matt Gould (126) all locked down #1's. Gould, a 2-time State medal winner, is looking to join Anthony Knox, Jake Zaltsman, and Patrick O'Keefe as the 4th member of SJV's 4-time District Champions Club.

Abe Amoako (150) and Saraiva (175) are the Lancers' other two top-seeds, and will be trying to win their 2nd District titles.

Ryan Bubba Gavrish (165), who missed a big chunk of the regular season, was 7th in the state last season, and is as good a #2 seed as you'll find in any of the 32 Districts this season. Similarly, you'll be hard-pressed to find a returning State Qualifer as a 4-seed in any of the Districts, but we'll have that here with Thomas Foley who is another Lancer that dealt with injury this season. He could be set up with what would be a very interesting semifinal matchup with top-seeded Shawn Retta of Keansburg.

The Lancers have won 4 consecutive Team Titles and figure to battle with Middletown South for the top spot this season. They have the heavy hitters that even if the Eagles can put more wrestlers on the podium than them, they can still out-point the field.
