SHORE CONFERENCE 95

106
#2 (Jr) Thomas Blewett - Middletown North (D-20-1st / R5-1st)
#3 (Fr) Jonas Lusker - Southern (27-5 / D30-1st / R8-1st)
#11 (Fr) Justin Jani - Howell (26-10 / D22-1st / R6-4th)
#12 (Fr) John Tarantino - RBC (28-4 / D32-1st / R8-2nd)
#13 (Fr) Santino Edgar - CBA (31-7 / D21-1st / R6-1st)
#31 (So) Luke Eberhard - Rumson (32-11 / D19-1st / R5-4th)

As we usually see from 106, we have a lot of wild seeding. With a lot of the best wrestlers being freshmen, they have no previous advancement criteria to be seeded. As a result, they really on head to head wins. Once a triangle comes in, those wins can get thrown out, or they're not enough to pass returners who do have criteria and may not have wrestled as tough a schedule. Blewett and Edgar have been ranked at the top of 106 all season long, and while Blewett is seeded #2, Edgar is all the way down at #13. Both #3 Lusker and #12 Tarantino have wins over the #1 overall seed, Will Cruz of Paulsboro, who is unranked in the Full Circle & NJ.com polls. It's not everyday you have a #1 seed who is a longshot to win it all, but that's how it works with 106 sometimes. Edgar is 5-1 against wrestlers seeded higher than him in this bracket. The lone loss was a 2-1 defeat to Blewett in the SCT Finals. He's been dominant ever since. He's my pick in an all-Shore final, in a weight where I think the Shore gets at least 3 medal winners.
PREDICTION: #13 Edgar (CBA) over #2 Blewett (Middletown North)
MEDAL FROM OUTSIDE TOP 8 SEED: #13 Edgar (CBA)

113
#1 (Jr) Killian Coluccio - Lacey (37-4 / D26-1st / R7-1st)
#3 (So) Peter Trezza - Middletown South (38-5 / D17-1st / R5-1st)
#5 (Fr) Ryan Blewett - Middletown North (D20-1st / R5-2nd)
#11 (Fr) Shiloh Joyce - CBA (32-6 / D21-1st / R6-1st)
#12 (Fr) Julius Feliciano - TR East (37-9 / D26-2nd / R7-3rd)
#13 (Sr) Michael Napolitano - Brick Memorial (36-6 / D23-1st / R6-2nd)
#18 (Fr) Nick Banos - Southern (29-10 / D30-2nd / R8-3rd)
#31 (Sr) Omar Carrillo-Solano - Wall (32-10 / D22-2nd / R6-4th)
#32 (So) Sayan Rao - Holmdel (34-8 / D18-3rd / R5-4th)

The Shore grabbed 3 top 5 seeds here, including one from #5 Blewett, a part of a great crop of freshmen 13 pounders in the Shore this season. 3 of those freshmen, Blewett, #11 Joyce, and #18 Banos, did not wrestle in the Shore Conference Tournament. Trezza wrestled at 120 in the SCT. His only matches against any of the other Shore qualifiers were a pair of pins over Blewett. Coluccio's only losses were to out of state competition. He has dominated Jersey this year, with the only wrestler to not lose by major or worse to him being Feliciano, in what was a 13-6 decision. Coluccio majored Feliciano on two other occasions. Feliciano and Blewett are lineup up to meet in the pre-quarters if they both win their openers. Joyce split a pair of bouts with the #2 seeded Charlie Esposito (St Joe's Montvale), the runner-up in this weight class last year, with Joyce winning 4-1 in sudden victory in the Powerade Tournament, while Esposito avenged the loss in the Catholic School Duals. Esposito is ranked ahead of Coluccio on both Full Circle & NJ.com, but I think Coluccio is due here and the Lions get their first champ since Russ Witt in 1997. I'm going with Joyce to reach the podium, and one more freshman from the Shore to get on there too.
PREDICTION: #1 Coluccio (Lacey) over #2 Esposito (St Joe's Montvale)
MEDAL FROM OUTSIDE TOP 8 SEED:  #12 Feliciano (TR East)

120
#4 (Sr) Ethan Michaels - Colts Neck (38-5 / D22-1st / R6-1st)
#6 (So) Cade Collins - Southern (33-4 / D30-1st / R8-1st)
#7 (Jr) Sonny DiMatteo - CBA (21-17 / D23-1st / R6-3rd)
#9 (Sr) Eamon Fry - Rumson (25-4 / D19-1st / R5-1st)
#12 (Jr) Julian Zargo - St John Vianney (35-4 / D17-1st / R5-2nd)
#22 (Jr) Shane Maghan - Howell (28-8 / D22-2nd / R6-4th)
#25 (Jr) Mako Vezzosi - RBC (12-12 / D32-1st / R8-4th)

The Shore has four wrestlers seeded in the top 9, but it is going to take a substantial upset for one of them to make it to the finals. The top-seeded Cameron Sontz (St Joe's Montvale), a junior, is looking for his 3rd title in 3 seasons, in his 3rd different weight class. Across from him in the #2 is Delbarton sophomore Jojo Burke, the State Champ at 106 last year. It's a highly anticipated final, but there are a ton of spoilers out there. The argument can be made that if anyone takes down the #1 and #2 here on their way to the title, then they're leaving here with the OW. I don't think anyone is doing that, so I'm going 1 vs 2 in the finals, and the Shore gets 2 more on the podium.
PREDICTION: #1 Sontz (Delbarton) over #2 Burke (St Joe's Montvale)
MEDAL FROM OUTSIDE TOP 8 SEED: #11 Arango (St Joe's Metuchen)

126
#1 (Jr) Paul Kenny - CBA (37-1 / D21-1st / R6-1st)
#2 (Sr) Anthony Mason - Southern (27-2 / D30-1st / R8-1st)
#8 (Sr) Matt Gould - St John Vianney (24-6 / D17-1st / R5-1st)
#21 (Sr) Aidan Flynn - Lacey (36-6 / D26-1st / R7-4th)
#24 (Fr) Sean Elliott - Howell (32-6 / D22-1st / R6-2nd)
#28 (So) Cole DeAngelo - RBC (20-16 / D32-2nd / R8-4th)

Kenny is ranked #3 in the country, and a heavy favorite here. The Shore gets their 3rd champ, and puts 2 on the podium.
PREDICTION: #1 Kenny (CBA) over #3 Marchetti (Delbarton)
MEDAL FROM OUTSIDE TOP 8 SEED: #15 Joyce (Camden Catholic)

132
#4 (Jr) Ricky DeLorenzo - TR East (41-3 / D26-1st / R7-2nd)
#13 (Jr) Teag Saito - CBA (25-17 / D21-2nd / R6-3rd)
#23 (Sr) Owen Brackett - Raritan (25-9 / D17-2nd / R5-3rd)
#27 (Sr) Gage Grant - Manalapan (35-7 / D24-2nd / R6-4th)

Outside of heavyweight, this is lowest representation for the Shore in AC. DeLorenzo was 4th in the state last season. He's in the 4-spot across from the returning State Champ in this weight class, #1 Sammy Spaulding (Camden Catholic) who defeated DeLorenzo, 4-1, in the Region final. No doubt DeLorenzo will be gunning for that rematch. Saito can create havoc in this bracket. Unfortunately, from a Shore perspective, he's lineup up to potentially face DeLorenzo in the pre-quarters. I'm going with Spaulding to win his 2nd title, while DeLorenzo gets to the podium for the 2nd straight year.
PREDICTION: #1 Spaulding (Camden Catholic) over #3 DiAndrea (Watching Hills)
MEDAL FROM OUTSIDE TOP 8 SEED: #14 Morero (Seton Hall Prep)

138
#6 (Jr) Dom Volek - Ocean Township (39-3 / D23-1st / R6-1st)
#8 (Sr) Tucker Pazinko - Jackson Twp (33-8 / D21-1st / R6-3rd)
#9 (Sr) Joaquin Duque - Rumson (26-2 / D19-1st / R5-1st)
#13 (Jr) Dylan Placca - Holmdel (34-8 / D18-1st / R5-2nd)
#14 (So) Jayce Cappello - TR East (37-7 / D26-1st / R7-1st)
#25 (Jr) Robbie Fritz - RBC (22-6 / D32-3rd / R8-4th)
#26 (Sr) Tyler Oden - Middletown North (36-12 / D20-1st / R5-3rd)
#31 (So) JP Sanders - Manasquan (31-9 / D22-1st / R6-4th)

At some point during the tournament, Lower Cape May's #2 Chase Hansen is expected to break the New Jersey record for career wins. Yes, I know, 100 wins isn't what it used to be, and we're getting to the point where we're going to start saying that about 120 wins, but still... Hansen is a 3-time placer and is also chasing the all-time NJ pins record. Things are lined up for this to be a monster weekend for him. His only loss in NJ this year is to #1 seed Brian Little (St Joe's Montvale), 4-3. I'm going with an upset in the top bracket, so Hansen doesn't get to avenge the loss, but he does get the title. From the Shore, I'm going with Volek and Duque to make the podium.
PREDICTION: #2 Hansen (Lower Cape May) over #4 Vann (Delsea)
MEDAL FROM OUTSIDE TOP 8 SEED: #11 Inserra (Pascack Valley)

144
#1 (Sr) Bobby Duffy - CBA (33-5 / D21-1st / R6-1st)
#7 (Sr) Armani McCann - Jackson Twp (35-5 / D21-2nd / R6-2nd)
#12 (Sr) Attila Vigilante - Southern (23-3 / D30-1st / R8-2nd)
#18 (Jr) Jackson Fearon - Middletown North (41-5 / D20-1st / R5-1st)
#19 (So) Christian Reyes - Holmdel (36-8 / D18-2nd / R5-3rd)
#32 (Sr) Luken Ramos - RBC (28-10 / D32-1st / R8-4th)

A riot nearly breaks out when the same public school puts back-to-back wrestlers in the finals. The potential #2 vs #3 here would be Delbarton's Ryan DeGeorge, a champ in 2024 and a runner-up last year, against Delsea's #3 Anthony DePaul, who finished 5th in 2024 and 4th last year. I like DePaul with the "mild upset." I've got Duffy cruising through the top bracket, with a couple of pins along the way, on his way to the top of the podium, while McCann and Vigilante close their careers with medals.
PREDICTION: #1 Duffy (CBA) over #3 DePaul (Delsea)
MEDAL FROM OUTSIDE TOP 8 SEED: #12 Vigilante (Southern)

150
#1 (Jr) Sonny Amato - Rumson (31-1 / D19-1st / R5-1st)
#11 (Sr) Abe Amoako - St John Vianney (28-10 / D17-3rd / R5-2nd)
#12 (Sr) Will Sakoutis - CBA (24-10 / D21-1st / R6-1st)
#13 (Fr) Brady Little - Howell (27-5 / D22-1st / R6-2nd)
#14 (Sr) Nicholas Wall - Middletown North (42-5 / D20-1st / R5-3rd)
#21 (Sr) Owen Beneciuk - TR South (36-6 / D26-1st / R7-4th)
#22 (Jr) Parker Quinn - Wall (33-7 / D22-2nd / R6-3rd)
#24 (Jr) Anthony Russo - RBC (24-12 / D32-2nd / R8-2nd)
#25 (Fr) Anthony Molinaro - Southern (24-11 / D30-3rd / R8-4th)

Amato is a heavy favorite to get back to the top of the podium. He was a champ last season, and finished 3rd a year ago. I wanted to go with an upset in the bottom bracket, but not picking against the #2 seeded sophomore Nicholas Schwartz (Delbarton) who finished 6th as a freshman at 144.
PREDICTION: #1 Amato (Rumson) over #2 Schwartz (Delbarton)

MEDAL FROM OUTSIDE TOP 8 SEED: #12 Sakoutis (CBA)

157
#4 (Jr) Wyatt Fry - Rumson (31-2 / D17-1st / R5-1st)
#11 (Sr) James Jakub - CBA (26-12 / D21-1st / R6-2nd)
#23 (Jr) Jeremy Marsella - Wall (30-9 / D22-1st / R6-3rd)
#26 (So) Finley Pazinko - Jackson Twp (26-12 / D21-2nd / R6-4th)
#28 (Jr) Christian Ardiles - Central (33-3 / D26-1st / R7-3rd)
#29 (Sr) Jason Huss - Red Bank (39-8 / D17-2nd / R5-4th)

It will be interesting to see Fry in his first run in the State Tournament after spending his first two seasons wrestling in Pa. There's an established field here that is tough to pick against, but Fry is capable of beating anyone here. Still, #1 Kage Jones (Camden Catholic) has finished 2nd and 3rd here. The senior seems primed to capture that elusive title before he moves on to Rider next season.
PREDICTION: #1 Jones (Camden Catholic) over #3 Monticello (Hanover Park)
MEDAL FROM OUTSIDE TOP 8 SEED: #20 Thompson (Immaculata)

165
#3 (Jr) Jake Clayton - Pt Boro (36-2 / D24-1st / R6-1st)
#6 (Jr) Bubba Gavrish - St John Vianney (16-2 / D17-1st / R5-2nd)
#7 (Sr) Brendan Boyer - CBA (23-13 / D21-1st / R6-2nd)
#14 (Sr) Ryan Willi - Middletown South (40-4 / D17-2nd / R5-3rd)
#16 (So) Vincent Esposito - Southern (32-3 / D30-1st / R8-1st)
#21 (Sr) Nico Cordova - Middletown North (34-12 / D20-3rd / R5-4th)
#25 (Sr) Dean Natale - Colts Neck (33-8 / D22-1st / R6-4th)
#32 (Sr) Cristian Rodriguez - RBC (22-14 / D32-1st / R8-4th)

The Shore has a very good shot at 3 medals in this weight, but as far as the top spot goes, it will take a pretty substantial sized upset to knock off the #1 ranked wrestler in the country at 165, top-seeded Jayden James of Delbarton. The Penn State commit has finished 3rd, 2nd, and 1st at the tournament. He is 31-0 this season with all but one of his wins coming by tech fall or better. The only non-tech/pin win was an 8-5 sudden victory win over Melvin Miller of Bishop Mccort, who is the #1 ranked wrestler in the country at 157. Jones is a strong favorite to claim his 2nd title before heading to Happy Valley. The #2 seeded Reid Clausi's (West Essex) only loss came out of state. He handed Clayton his only two losses on the season.
PREDICTION: #1 James (Delbarton) over #2 Clausi (West Essex)
MEDAL FROM OUTSIDE TOP 8 SEED: #15 Paretti (St Joe's Montvale)

175
#2 (Jr) Brock Oizerowitz - CBA (23-7 / D21-1st / R6-1st)
#10 (Jr) Tyler Going - Howell (31-2 / D22-1st / R6-2nd)
#11 (Sr) Daniel Benbrook - Middletown North (38-4 / D20-1st / R5-2nd)
#12 (Sr) John Saraiva - St John Vianney (9-3 / D17-1st / R5-3rd)
#20 (Sr) Michael Colon - Lacey (37-7 / D26-3rd / R-2nd)
#22 (Sr) Gerald Miller - Barnegat (36-6 / D26-1st / R7-4th)
#24 (Sr) Nicholas Allen - Ocean Township (30-11 / D23-1st / R6-4th)
#26 (Jr) Nick Daddona - Southern (21-8 / D30-2nd / R8-3rd)

Oizerowitz has placed in each of his first two seasons, 8th as a freshman, and 3rd last year. He's on the opposite side of the bracket from the #1 seeded Santino Rodriguez (Don Bosco), the undefeated Beast of the East and Sam Cali champion. The 3-seed, Gabe Logan (Delbarton) placed 4th in 2024, but missed last season with an injury. He was injured again this year, missing a month of the season before returning for the postseason. He's looked sharp so far, but it's definitely something to keep an eye on. While Oizerowitz should return to the podium, it's gonna be a tough road for anyone else from the Shore to break through a tough field.
PREDICTION: #1 Rodriguez (Don Bosco) over #3 Gabe Logan (Delbarton)
MEDAL FROM OUTSIDE TOP 8 SEED: #13 Palermo (Hammonton)

190
#4 (Sr) Alexander Reyes - Holmdel (39-3 / D18-1st / R5-1st)
#5 (Sr) Tornick Kajaia - Long Branch (40-1 / D24-1st / R6-1st)
#6 (Jr) Levi Foote - Southern (34-3 / D30-1st / R8-1st)
#7 (Sr) Luke Dougherty - Rumson (32-5 / D17-1st / R5-2nd)
#20 (So) Timmy O'Rourke - Howell (28-6 / D22-1st / R6-2nd)
#24 (Jr) Cole Torres - Shore (23-4 / D22-2nd / R6-3rd)
#25 (Sr) Jarred O'Neill - CBA (21-15 / D21-1st / R6-4th)
#29 (Jr) Jake Mott - Lacey (36-7 / D26-1st / R7-2nd)
#30 (Sr) Brian Garcia - RBC (24-9 / D32-2nd / R8-3rd)
#31 (Jr) Parker Needham - Raritan (23-9 / D17-2nd / R5-3rd)

Some great talent from the Shore here, and I think the four wrestlers seeded in the top 7 all reach the podium. Just might depend where they catch each other in the wrestlebacks to prevent that from happening. As good as the Shore's reps are, #1 Carl Betz (Delbarton) and #2 Nevin Mattessich (Don Bosco) are more than good enough to hold their seeds.
PREDICTION: #1 Betz (Delbarton) over #2 Mattessich (Don Bosco)
MEDAL FROM OUTSIDE TOP 8 SEED: #14 Sawyer (Delsea)

215
#2 (Jr) Tanner Hodgins - Howell (37-2 / D22-1st / R6-1st)
#3 (Sr) Tyler Palumbo - CBA (33-7 / D21-1st / R6-2nd)
#8 (Sr) Shawn Retta - Keansburg (42-2 / D17-1st / R5-1st)
#13 (Sr) Brett Rankin - TR South (34-4 / D26-1st / R-2nd)
#21 (Jr) JJ Oshin - Matawan (30-12 / D20-1st / R5-3rd)

Hodgins moved from #1 at 190 in the rankings to #1 at 215. He was going to be the favorite no matter what weight he went, but he's by no means a lock. He's not even the top seed here. That would be #2 Dante DeLuca (Don Bosco), a 5th place finisher at 215 in 2024, and the runner-up last year. A lot of eyes around the Shore will be on Keansburg's Shawn Retta, the 8-seed who is trying to become just the 3rd medal winner in program history, and first since Tyree Sutton won the State title in 2015.
PREDICTION: #2 Hodgins (Howell) over #1 DeLuca (Don Bosco).
MEDAL FROM OUTSIDE TOP 8 SEED: #1 Ismael (Delbarton)

Hwt
#8 (Sr) Mohammad Targali - Matawan (40-3 / D20-1st / R5-2nd)
#14 (Sr) Jarairya Jean - Neptune (31-3 / D22-1st / R6-1st)
#22 (Sr) Andrew Chitacapa - Jackson Twp (28-10 / D21-1st / R6-2nd)

A runner-up last season, #1 Cristian Alvarez (St Joe's Montvale) is undefeated and has been at the top of the rankings all season long. #3 Thomas C has only lost once, that was to Howell's Tanner Hodgins who bumped up in the dual meet to defeat Borgia, 4-1.
PREDICTION: #1 Alvarez (St Joe's Montvale) over #3 Thomas Borgia (West Essex)

MEDAL FROM OUTSIDE TOP 8 SEED:  #18 Jordan (Audubon)
