Shore Stuff

CBA: 87 District Champs (Last: 2020)  /  Streak: 10 Seasons  /  4 Team Titles (Last 2016)

CBA has had multiple District Champs in each of the last 10 tournaments, a streak that barring anything completely unforeseen, looks like it will continue. Something to keep an eye on will be the Colts challenging the program record for most District Champs in a season, 6, set in 1968.

Top 4 Seeds
1: Nini (120) / Totten (126) / George (138) / Barrett (150) / Silva (157) / Stump (165) / Lawrence (175)
2: Grippo (190) / Canterino (215)
3: Venet (106) / Falcone (132) / Punzi (144)

Jackson Liberty: 18 District Champs (Last: 2020)  /  Streak: 3 Seasons  /  0 Team Titles

Liberty has had just one season since 2009 where they haven't had at least one District Champ. If the seeds hold, Liberty will have 3 champs, which would match the program single-season record.

Top 4 Seeds
1: Urso (106) / Klein (215) / Valente (Hwt)
2: Abline (120)
3: LeFurge (113)
4: Martin (165) / Fayed (175)

Lakewood: 48 District Champs (Last: 2018)  /  2 Team Titles (Last: 1968)

The Piners have had a District medal winner in each of the previous 3 tournaments. If they are to keep that streak alive, they will need someone to break seed, as their four highest seeded wrestlers all earned #4 seeds.

Top 4 Seeds
4: Flores Chacon (113) / Silva (132) / Romero (215) / Moore (Hwt)

Manasquan: 26 District Champs (Last: 2004)  /  1 Team Title (1979)

The rapidly improving Warriors have sent a wrestler to Regions each of the last 5 seasons. They'll be looking to continue that streak, as well as pushing multiple wrestlers to the Regions for the first time since 2017.

Top 4 Seeds
2: Lisk (144)
3: O'Connor (120) / Edwards (157)
4: Marcucci (106) / Falkinburg (138) / Mammeri (190)

Ocean Township: 113 District Champs (Last: 2020)  /  Streak: 17 Seasons  /  18 Team Titles (Last: 2020)

The Spartans' 18 District Team Titles is the most for any Monmouth County school. Their streak of 17 seasons with a District Champ is currently the 5th longest in the Shore Conference. They do have a #1 seed in Jared Tracey, but can one of the #2 seeds pull off a fairly big upset to ensure they keep their streak going?

Top 4 Seeds
1: Tracey (190)
2: Farina (126) / Poniros (138) / Benner (150) / Cartagena-Walsh (157)

Pt Boro: 103 District Champs (Last: 2020)  /  Streak: 24 Seasons  /  5 Team Titles (Last: 2018)

Another lengthy streak is on the line as the Panthers are tied with Southern Regional with the 2nd longest active streak in the Shore, with a District Champ at 24 consecutive tournaments. They've got a very solid pair of frosh down low with Joey DeAngelo seeded #2 at 106, and top-seeded 113-pounder Frankie Burgio, who look to be the Panthers' two best candidates to keep the streak alive.

Top 4 Seeds
1: Burgio (113)
2: DeAngelo (106)
3: Thompson (150) / Cruscuolo (165) / Krosnicki (215) / Wilson (Hwt)
4: Acquisto (144)

St Rose: 1 District Champ (Last: 1992)  /  0 Team Titles

The Roses will take a shot at getting their first District medal since Nick Greenquist placed 2nd in D23 in 2012. Robert Connelley has had an outstanding rookie campaign, and is seeded "in the money." If he can hold his seed, and someone, perhaps 4-seeds Jack Kane and/or Vincent Fontanez, can break seed, the Roses would send multiple wrestlers to the Regions for the first time since 2011.

Top 4 Seeds
3: Connelley (138)
4: Kane (126) / Fontanez (150)

TR North: 73 District Champs (Last: 2020)  /  Streak: 8 Seasons  /  2 Team Titles (Last: 2018)

North's current run of 8 seasons with a District Champ includes a run of 3 or more champs in each of the last four tournaments.

Top 4 Seeds
1: Rosenthal (144)
2: Dolci (132) / Winn (175)
3: Anderson (126)
4: Kerico (120)

Weight To Watch

Several weights to choose from, but most have clear cut favorites on top, so I'm going with 144 here. While #1 Jake Rosenthal of TR North, a 2-time Region-qualifier, is indeed the favorite here, he comes with the tag that he also may represent the Mariners' best chance at keeping their streak of 8 seasons with a District Champ intact. At the #2, Manasquan's David Lisk is also a 2-time Region-qualifier, and is aiming to give the Warriors their first District champ since Todd Rinaldo in 2004. At the #3 is the battle-tested Nico Punzi of CBA, #4 is Pt Boro's Ryan Acquisto, who has had some big wins this seaso for the Panthers, and at #5 is Hamilton West's Andy Figueroa, who is 16-2.

Team Title Prediction

This looks like it is going to be a big day for CBA, as there just doesn't look like a path for anyone to keep the Colts from adding another trophy to the case.
