Just about everyone from last year's 15-win team returns, and things look in line for a potentially big season for Colts Neck.

The upper half of this year's lineup should be a big strength for the Cougars, with seven returning starters filling out the lineup from 150-Hwt. Leading the charge is senior Tyler Russ. Russ, the team leader in wins last season, is a 2-time District medal winner, and was a State qualifier in 2022. He was a win away from a return trip to Atlantic City last year, finishing 5th at Regions.

Russ is joined by four other returning senior starters in 2-time District medal winner Amir Shakhnavazov, 17-bout winner Joaquin Andujar, 16-bout winner Nick Fischer, and heavyweight Davit Tsarukyan.

There's some talented youth in this group, as well, in sophomores Dean Natale and Brody Kaplan. Natale qualified for the Regions last year after placing 3rd at 175 in D22, while Kaplan won 17 matches and took 4th at Districts.

106-pounder Ethan Michaels' 26 wins were the most for a Colts Neck freshman since Joey King's 36-win rookie campaign in 2015. He went on to place 2nd at Districts, and finished 6th in the Region. He's part of a young group in the lower half of the lineup that also features double-digit winners junior Christian Cleary and sophomore Blake Robinovitz, and fellow returning starters, Alex Yale and Michael Borao, who are both returning starters. There will be several freshmen coming off nice performances in the feeder system looking to break into the lineup, including Intermediate State qualifiers Colin Barone and Nico Zecchino.

With the talent and experience the Cougars have back this year, expect them to contend for the B-North title. They open the season going right into that division slate, as they visit Manasquan on December 15th, and then have a key dual on the 20th as they visit Ocean Township.
