Senior Angelo Messina fell one win short of a State medal, dropping a tough 9-7 decision to Raritan's Zach Reilley in Friday night's Blood Round. It ends the career of one of the program's best wrestlers as Messina ends with 3 Region medals, 3 District Championships, and 108 career wins, which puts him 4th on the all-time wins list at Freehold.

Senior Joe Berryman also finished up his career with Freehold after being eliminated in the 2nd round of the wrestlebacks. Berryman was a 2-time State qualifier, a 2-time Region medalists, and a 2-time District medalist.

Angelo Messina won his third Region medal, and had his fourth top 5 finish, while Joe Berryman won his 2nd medal, as the Colonials are sending multiple wrestlers to Atlantic City for the fourth time in five years.

The shortened 2021 season cost Angelo Messina the opportunity of joining his brother Nico as a 4-time District Champion. As it is, Messina finishes as a 3-time Champ, joining his brother, and Hall of Famer Carlos Fontanez, as the only Colonials with at least 3 District Championships in the program's 89-year history. Andrew Fata also won a title for Freehold, making it three tournaments in a row with multiple champs for the Colonials. It is also the 2nd consecutive season with a Top 3 finish as a team.
