2025 Holmdel Hornets

Head Coach: Mike Oxley (4th Season / 44-28)
Assistants: Michael Keane / Jimmy Speidel
Volunteers: Michael Pavlinetz / Orlando Reyes
2024 Record: 20-5

The surging Hornets continued their rise in 2024 by putting up their first 20-win dual campaign since 2019. 10 regulars from last year's team, including six District medalists are back, as Holmdel looks to continue their winning ways in 2025.

Led by junior Alex Reyes, six starters are back from 150-up. Reyes, who has 78 wins through his first two seasons, comes off a 41-win season in which he became just the 2nd State medal winner in program history after winning his first Region title and 2nd District title. Reyes also made history by becoming Holmdel's first Shore Conference Tournament Champion. He's joined in the upper half by senior Jack Cleary, a 25-match winner last season, who claimed his 2nd District medal after placing 3rd in District 19 at 157. Also returning are seniors Asher Martinez and Hamsa Elmesei. Elmesei, a 3rd-place finisher at Districts, forms a nice 1-2 up top with heavyweight John Gann, who had 19 wins as a freshman at heavyweight last year. Sophomore Michael Todisco was impressive in his rookie year, winning 26 matches and taking 2nd at the Districts. The potential is here for this to be a very strong group for the Hornets.

Dylan Placca and Nicholas Paulino both shined during their freshmen seasons last year. Paulino won 25 bouts and was a runner-up at Districts, while Placca recorded 31 victories and took 6th at Regions after a 3rd-place finish at Districts. Senior Rowen Blackmore was a District medal winner as a freshman, and has finished 4th in each of the last two seasons. He provides a nice veteran presence down low for the young group. Another senior, Luke Podesta, returns to the lineup after missing last season. Podesta won 11 matches as a sophomore. Keep an eye on freshman Christian Reyes, who was a 7th-place finisher in the Intermediate School States last year.

Holmdel has a lot of talent throughout the lineup. The key for the Hornets will be to stay healthy. If they can do that, there is a pretty good balance from top to bottom that is going to lead to a lot of dual wins.
