2022 Piners Wrestling

Head Coach
Corey Maliff - 2nd Season (Career Record: 4-7)

Where They Open
12/17: Home Dual vs. Manalapan

Lakewood lost a ton to graduation, with 13 seniors in all gone from last year's roster. They still have some experience returning, as well as a host of youngsters in the room looking to take advantage of the opportunities to get on the mat with so many starters having departed.

The Piners have their most experience returning in the lower half of the lineup. Senior Rasul Allen is a 4-year starter, while junior Edgar Silva, a 21-bout winner as a frosh in 2020, will be entering his 3rd year as a starter. Junior Mark Barreda has some varsity experience, as well, getting 13 matches in 2020.

The upper half of the lineup will feature a lot of new faces, so the Piners will look the junior duo of Alexis Bautista and Frank Romero to provide some leadership as the most experienced wrestlers in this group. Bautista, who won 22 bouts as a freshman, has a chance to be one of the better heavies in the Shore. Romero made a few appearances on the mat last year, also had 9 matches in 2020. Senior, Rudolph Angel and Xavion Moore, a junior, did not wrestle last season, but do have varsity experience from previous seasons.

With so many losses to graduation, and just a couple of seniors in the room, the Piners will undergo a little bit of a rebuild in 2022.  Lakewood usually keeps the schedule pretty full, so there should be a lot of opportunities for the youngsters to get varsity valuable experience.
