With just a handful of starters returning, new Lakewood head coach Jay Graham will have a lot of new faces breaking into the varsity lineup this season.
The Piners have had some solid talent in the upperweights over the years, and senior David Dominguez fits the bill this season. The senior has put up at least 16 wins in each of his first three seasons, and was a Region qualifier in 2024 after taking 3rd at Districts. He gives the Piners a legit thumper up top. Also up top for the Piners is junior Jose Vidal, who will be looking to build off last season's starting experience and provide some experienced leadership to the upper part of the lineup along with Dominguez.
It looks to be a very young group down below, but the Piners do have a pair of returning starters in sophomores Diego Castillo and Dylan Melendez, who won 17 and 13 bouts respectively last season, and will be looking to take the next step in 2024, while providing some experience around a group that looks like will consist of a lot of new faces to the varsity lineup.
The Piners will look to compete with the programs of similar size and will look to contend in the H-Division against Asbury Park, Neptune, Keyport, Pinelands, New Egypt, and Monmouth Regional.
