With a recently restarted rec program, enthusiasm and numbers are up at the intermediate and high school level. The Hawks are young, but with approximately 40 boys and 25 girls in the room, things look very healthy for the program.
The young group down low gets a nice boost with the arrival of senior Gavin Stone, who won 20 matches last season while wrestling for New Egypt, who can provide a bit of veteran leadership. Sophomores Tyler Costa and Michael Masi will look to build off the experience gained from their first year in the varsity lineup, while junior Braden Zayas enters his third season in the starting lineup.
The Wilson brothers, both juniors, anchor the middle of the lineup. Cash won 29 matches last season and finished 4th at Districts, while Cole won 12 bouts.
The Hawks could have a very good 1-2 punch at 215/Hwt with junior Justyce Garcia and senior Miguel Espinal. Garcia has gotten down from 280 last season, to 215 this year, and with him down the weight class it allows the Hawks to get their two best upperweights on the mat. While Espinal was only 4-2 last year, he had a couple of nice wins, and it's worth noting one of his wins was a victory over a wrestler who had majored him the year before. This could be a pretty good duo for the Hawks.
This is a young team, but it is a team with high hopes for the future, but with a focus on winning now, as well. Manchester made the Sectionals for the first time in over a decade last season, and are looking to get back this year, while competing for the top spot in the G-Division and earning the program's first winning season since 2015.
