2022 Lions Wrestling

Head Coach
Eric Morley - 1st Season

Where They Open
12/18: at CBA Colt Classic

Former assistant Eric Morley takes over as head coach, replacing long time coach Matt Sirchio after a successful 15-year run, that included 4 division titles in his final 6 years.  Morley inherits a team with a large group of underclassmen comprising a good chunk of the lineup, as the Lions will hit 2022 with one of the younger squads in the Shore Conference this season.

Among the underclassmen down low is sophomore Brady Klinsky. We didn't get a chance to see too much of Klinsky with the shortened season in 2021, but he did qualify for the Regions, and is a great, young talent in the lower part of the lineup for North. Also back down low for the Lions is junior Colin Oden, a 2-time Region Qualifier who won 22 bouts a freshman, as well as senior Justin Haddad, who will provide some upperclassmen leadership to the otherwise very young group down low.

The middle of the lineup gets a nice boost with the return of Shaun Sullivan, who missed last season. The senior has 50 varsity matches to his credit, and provides a quality veteran presence in the middle of the lineup. There's a couple more seniors here capable of providing leadership in the room in Kyle McCarthy and Emmitt Wilton. Also returning here for the Lions is sophomore Matt Castelli, a starter last season, who will be looking to build off last year's experience.

The upperweights will be made primarily of new faces to the lineup, as junior Lucas Ainbinder is the only upperclassmen with any varsity matches on resume. He'll be looking for a breakout year in his first season as a starter with a full schedule. A perfect example of just how young this Lions' lineup is can be seen at the 215 and heavyweight slots, which look like they'll be filled by freshmen Michael Dwyer and Evan Layfield, and sophomore Kieran Foley, a promising youngster at 285.

With a team this young, the Lions will be focusing heavy on improving with each outing, and building towards the future. The feeder program has been pumping out some great talent over the years, so this group will be anxious show what they're capable of at the high school level. There's a great attitude in the practice room, and the Lions are excited to get things going.
