Jeff Bower - 12th Season (Career Record: 202-51)
Where They Open
12/18: IceBreaker Tournament at Old Bridge
The Gulls lost a few big names to graduation, but they still return a good number of experienced wrestlers throughout the lineup, and have a host of hard working youngsters looking to break into the lineup.
There's a strong senior presence in the lower portion of the lineup. Michael Storino is a 4-year starter, and could be primed for a big season. Fellow seniors Jack Schulter, Rowan McLoughlin, and Owen DeBenedett have all gotten various amounts of varsity experience since their freshmen seasons, but have usually been stuck behind some of the Gulls' big names on the depth chart the last couple of seasons. All of them will be looking for breakout seasons in their final go around. Aidan Loughran got a lot of mat time as a frosh in 2020, and could be another Gull capable of having a breakout season.
Senior Jonah Bowers, a District Medalist in 2019, provides a solid veteran presence in the middle of the lineup for Beach. He is another Gull capable of big things this season. There are a few others here with some varsity experience in seniors Logan Devirgilis and Jack Schulter, juniors Nick Gardella and Joe Beley, and sophomore Josh Golda.
Up top, Beach will be breaking in a lot of new starters into the lineup. The most experienced wrestler they have from 165-up is senior Ryley Thomas, who has 13 varsity results to his credit. Other than Thomas, it's a pretty even mix of seniors and sophomores looking to step into the lineup.
Beach is always among the top teams in the Shore in terms of numbers in the program, an amazing achievement considering the small size of the school. The numbers are up once again after last year's COVID season, and the youngsters are working extremely hard as they look to crack the lineup and help the Gulls continue their winning ways. With the exception of 2010, 2016, and 2019, Beach has owned B-Central since 2008. Their chief rival in the division has been Shore Regional, who is in a smilar boat as Beach this season having to replace some big names lost to graduation, while breaking in some new faces. The two rivals won't meet up until the end of January, so there's a full month of schedule for the two teams to break in the newcomers and prepare for their annual clash.
