Where They Open
12/18: at CBA Colt Classic
Nine starters are back from last year's team, and some promising newcomers are looking to make an impact in the lineup, as the Mariners look to continue the program's winning ways.
It will be a pretty young group down low, with the lineup projected to feature mostly underclassmen. As a result, the Mariners will look to senior Cole Anderson to provide veteran leadership to the group. Anderson enters his 3rd season as a starter for North, and also saw a lot action in the varsity lineup as a freshman. Sophomores Zach Kericho and Joe Dolci both advanced to the Regions in their debut seasons last year, and will be aiming to take it the next level in 2022. Among the others expected to contribute in the lineup are Matt Stankowitz, who is looking to build off the experienced gained as the starter at 120 last year, and freshmen Travis Heck, Bradley Pressey, and Alex Roman. Keep an eye on Heck, who comes in after a solid career at the intermediate level.
Three starters return in the middle of the lineup. Senior Jake Rosenthal is a 2-time Region Qualifier, and has his sights set on a big season for the Mariners, and a deep postseason run. Lucas Iovino, also a senior, has appeared in the lineup for North every season since his freshman year, and is looking to close with a breakout year. Junior Tristan Pedre is looking to take the next step this year, after a winning season as a starter last year.
North is a little less experienced in the upperweights. Senior Ryan Winn has seen varsity action since his freshman year, and was the starter at 160 last season. He has put in the work this offseason, and is aiming for a big season in his final run with the Mariners. Senior Alex Primor is looking to build off his first year in the lineup last year, and help provide some experienced senior leadership with Winn. Among the newcomers entering the lineup, we'll keep a watch on freshman Edward Slosky, who won a pair of State Medals at the youth level.
Numbers are a little lower than usual for North this season, so it's important this team stays healthy. They have some solid pieces returning, and some very promising newcomers, that will be tested with the A-South opponents, as well as matches against state-ranked teams like Delsea and St. Augustine, as well as an entry in the always tough Henry Boresch Duals.
